The Bolero/In Search of Cezanne
One of the most honored films of its time and winner of an Academy Award, The Bolero captures the essence of an orchestra as Zubin Mehta conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a stellar performance of Ravel’s classic. Viewers gain insights into the music, the workings of a great orchestra, and leadership style and teamwork, all by observing a worldrenowned conductor in rehearsal and performance with a worldclass orchestra. In Search of Cezanne is an exploration of the life and legacy of 19th century French painter Paul C?zanne, as seen through the eyes of a young female documentary filmmaker who is just discovering his work. Traveling from New York to Paris and C?zanne’s hometown in the south of France, meeting scholars and family of C?zanne at each stop, her journey is a satisfying inquiry into artistic expression and its appreciation. America’s finest music documentarian, Allan Miller has produced films involving some of the most important musical events of the last two decades. He has made 35 documentaries about music, two of which have won Academy Awards - The Bolero, and From Mao To Mozart: Isaac Stern in China - plus an Emmy-winning documentary about classical violinist Itzhak Perlman. He also directed Small Wonders, which received an Academy Award nomination and was subsequently made into the feature length movie Music of the Heart, starring Meryl Streep.
Customer Review: The Bolero
I wondered if my memory of this film would proved disappointing after so many years. I first saw this in a Motion Picture as Art class and was so excited to see it finally on DVD. It is amazing and exciting. My heart still pounds watching Zubin Mehta conduct! He is breathtaking! This is a gem in the film world. It is so much more than a documentary of an orchestra. This is a work of art on film

Customer Review: Absolutely fantastic
Frank McMillan has done a fabulous job conveying the Holocaust and its importance in our lives today in this novel. His vivid descriptions of the ghetto, the uprising, the trains, the selections, and the camp are tremendously vivid yet not too graphic. He doesn’t forget that there were those who helped, sometimes in small ways, so others could live. Mrs. Ringlebaum is a prime example of these people. The book is fun, it is fast, and it is educational. What more can be said?
Customer Review: WOW! Don’t let this gem remain missing from your bookshelf.
This well-written, exciting story is a must read. In our crazy world where despots can claim that the Holocaust never happened, this book is a powerful reminder of the lives lost and the lives changed forever. The author expertly weaves the historical facts into his fictional characters to bring the horror of the Holocaust to a new generation. The fast-paced action will keep the reader engaged until the satisfying conclusion. An excellent purchase for readers of all ages.

Customer Review: Pretty helpful background for this important artist
Context: I’m not an academic or a scholar; I’m a regular guy who likes visiting museums when I travel and I wanted to do a little researach before I left. This book worked well for my daughter and I to learn more about Cezanne - his life and his work. I’m not qualified to evaluate it from an academic perspective, but as a layman it was generally what we needed for an overview. It’s easy to read and has a lot of nice illustrations.
